Operation Offense, Inc.
Athletes, Drugs, and Alcohol

Drugs and alcohol are not only found in the classroom, on the street and in the workplace but on the athletic field as well. The issues are difficult for most coaches. Whom should they talk to? How can we effectively implement school policies, regulations and procedures?

The problem is equally difficult for athletes. They are often hesitant to address chemical use on the team or with their coach.

The result is uncertainty, denial and inaction. Many just walk away from the problem, others refuse to recognize that it exists at all. Often times coaches and athletes feel guilty not confronting the problem. In many instances there is confusion.

However, no matter what difficulties cloud the issues, one thing is certain – coaches, student athletes, parents and the community all suffer unless they learn to prevent and resolve the problem together. Coaches and student athletes can play a key role in developing chemical education and prevention programs in their schools and communities.
